Bella
The police contacted the Pet Fostering Service on behalf of Bella’s owner; they were at the property with her and urgently needed somewhere safe for her dog to go so that her owner, Rosie, could go into a refuge. Arrangements started straight away and Bella was placed in the fostering service within 24 hours.
Bella, a 6 year old German Shepherd, quickly settled in with her foster carer and her four black cats.
She was only fostered for a short time, but this gave her owner an opportunity to get an injunction against her partner so that she and her children could return to their home and be reunited with their much loved family pet.
Rosie said that the Pet Fostering Service had enabled her to flee her violent home; she had not previously been able to do this as the only option available to her was to give Bella up permanently, which she was not prepared to do.
Lily and Poppy
Joan’s key worker contacted the Pet Fostering Service when she heard that it was to be available in her area. She had been working with Joan for the past two years, providing her with support and trying to help her leave her violent partner. The situation was getting increasingly dangerous by the day and she had begun to genuinely fear for Joan’s life.
Joan had two elderly cross breed dogs that she refused to leave until there was somewhere safe for them to go - she had no family or friends that could take them and did not have the money to pay for long term kennelling. The day that Lily and Poppy were collected, Joan left her partner and went into a refuge. During the time that her dogs were cared for, Joan maintained regular contact even after suffering a personal tragedy when her nephew was killed and her son left fighting for his life following a car accident. Joan often said that the thing that kept her going though this incredibly difficult time was the knowledge that she would soon be reunited with her two beloved dogs.
